Instructions for Self-Employed Work Permit Applicants

For Non-Belongers who have their own trade license in the BVI, they must apply for a self employed work permit in order to legally work for their company. Once these permits are issued, it is less likely to be denied renewal. Individuals who intend towork for a limited company or one that is already, registered with Company Registry), will not be eligible for a self-employed work permit. They should complete the New Work Permit application form. That is unless they are added to the trade license by the owner of the company.

For Self-Employed Work Permits, you are NOT required to advertise the role in reputable publications consecutively for 2 weeks prior to submitting your application. You are however, required to submit other documents which are not required for the standard New Work Permit.

Self-Employed work permit fees are a flat fee of $575, which differs significantly from other permit fees which are a percentage of ones annual salary. This information is published on (http://www.bvi.gov.vg/services/self-employed-work-permit) at the time of creating this post. (25 Feb 2018) We do not guarantee that this fee structure will continue in the future.

If you intend to be added to the Trade License, you will need to prepare a separate form from the BVI Trade Department, as well as provide several other documents like: financial references, police certificates, and character references, among others.

IMPORTANT! Ignore at your own peril.

Please do not leave any question blank. If a question does not apply to you, insert "not applicable" or "N/A" in the space provided. Applications printed double sided on cardstock or coloured paper, with blank spaces, and/or without original employee and employer signatures will not be accepted.
